Always: Bride & Groom

Using wedding colors, I designed a card and frame for a college friend who recently married. I'm a little late, but hey...these things take time! Wishing them the best in their future. The card base is kraft cardstock. The front of the card is very vanilla. The bottom half has a SU! Sanded image with an overaly of a London Script. A gold ribbon divides the two sections. From SU! Always collection, the heart is heat embossed with red embossing powder, then inked over with gold ink. The heart is trimmed then adhered to a larger red heart that also has gold inking. Three gold dew dots adorn the right side. The sentiment, "bride & groom" is stamped in red/gold ink. SU! hodgpodge hardware is added off of the gold ribbon.

I made the frame first, then the card to match. The frame I painted last weekend in a metallic gold. I thought the newlyweds could add a picture, but then thought about their wedding invite and how it just "MIGHT" fit. Well after checking, I was able to trim it down to fit "PERFECT!" Over the painted acrylic, I stamped the London Script in StazOn brown ink. It is a nice, yet subtle effect. The Always heart is adhered to the bottom right of the frame using the same heat embossed technique as described above. Heide Swapp chipboard letters spell the word always with those same gold dew dots on each side. The gold ribbon found its way around the frame with the hodgepodge hardware dangling off. A few prima flowers with more gold dew dots balance the top of the frame. I hope this will be a keepsake for the new couple!

Congratulations!

Delight in Everything

Here is my scrapbook layout for K. Werner's Color Challenge. This week, I've been in the mood to do scrapbook layouts, in addition to cards. I just pick up random photos that are in my studio and focus on that. I find it difficult to sit down to complete an entire scrapbook, so this method may work! If you're like me and like a layout to be two complete pages, then this will be a great start because the second page can flow from this page because the design concept already exists!

This scrapbook layout should be called "Where's Ashley?" because you need to try to find the picture with all of the embellishments! This is a brown 12 x 12 page with pink overlay. I cut various strips of pink cardstock on the bottom. The center features a large square with green scalloped edge. The center also has polka dot pattern paper with a green mat. Flowers are stamped on the green cardstock. Additional flowers are stamped on green and pink cardstock, then cut out and placed all over the page. Vanilla ribbon is tied around the green cardstock with a wavy brown ribbon underneath. The title, "delight in you" is stamped at the top.

thanks...a bunch!

This card is designed for K. Werner's Color Challenge. She selected Pottery Barn Kids decor. I really like pink and brown together. A touch of green is an added third color to balance designs. And, of course vanilla is a traditional neutral.

Simply stamped are cherry blossoms in watermark ink, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Dew dots create the popped buds of each blossom. A chocolate butterfly stops by to enjoy the flowers. The hinge clip creates a clipboard effect, along with the tab, giving proper notification of its purpose. The bottom portion features brown polka dots with a green ribbon to give the 3-layered color effect.

Baptism Book

Here is the cover of a baptism I created at the crop I went to at Scrapdoodles on Saturday. I can't believe I actually started a project and completed it. Well...almost completed it. When I returned to my studio, I just needed to add the rings and decorate the cover. That process did not take me too long. The covers of the book are KaiserCraft wood. I painted them with a metallic gold acrylic, then distressed with a cream acrylic. I added ribbon on the rings (rings purchased at Hobby Lobby). The metal alphabet letters are from Michael's and by Making Memories. They are great and feature numbers and the uppercase alpha on the opposite side. I used them here as well. I stamped the ornate cross on kraft cardstock, then inked the edges. The cross is a part of a wonderful spiritual set by Our Daily Bread Designs. I tied with hemp twine to the brown and sheer ribbons. "Baptism" are American Craft Thickers (of course) that I inked lightly with white ColorBox chalk. I really like the way this turned out!

I used baptism themed pattern paper and a simple blue cardstock for the top page. Below, I used Anna Griffin pattern paper set, purchased at Scrapdoodles. I used this paper throughout the remainder of the book. I really liked the designs and earth tones. I made a tag on the right and applied a rub-on noting "faith." Dew dots are placed on each side. Buttons with hemp twine embellish the remainder of the page.

This page could be used for journaling. I kept it simple by tearing a piece of pattern paper and inking the edges. Ribbon divides the page with a Baptism rub-on applied below. On the opposite page, I cut out a strip of Baptism-themed paper from Our Daily Bread Designs and adhered along with tinted vellum by Creative Memories. On the bottom, I stamped "blessings" by a retired SU! The large paper clip is by Quick Quotes and includes a distressed circle with the cross stamped on it. The tag on the left includes the sentiment grace.

This page features the opposite side of the tag, that has a rub-on, "Holy." The paper clip is carried over and includes a double mat of pattern paper and solid cardstock.

The actual pages I made by purchasing brown chipboard at Scrapdoodles, then cutting it to the size of the covers. This was a very simple and cost-effective book!

{on my way}

Inspired by a few ideas this time around: (1) Beate's Inspiration Challenge, (2) Tessa's card, and (3) Savitri's concept. To start, Beate's weekly inspiration challenges are great because you can use any element of them as inspiration. I've never completed a scrapbook page after being inspired, but something sparked tonight! Ever since Tessa's Card Creations, I've been thinking about those silly posies and how easy they were to make using scraps and since I've been on my "use scraps" kick, I wanted to use this fabulous design. Lastly, Savitri, a new paper artist I've discovered while blogging, showed this ingenious idea of using a box (what basically everyone has) and incorporating it into their paper art!

The only non-scrap item (I should've just said new!) was the red solid cardstock for the scrapbook page. I thought that was an exception to the rule since I needed to do a full 12x12! This page should be called raggedy-ann because that's just how it looks! I love the distressed look, which is pretty 'ratty.' I framed the scrapbook page by stitching in black around the edges all over the place. I added torn scraps of cardstock in colors from Beate's Inspiration and from the old photo (yes...that's ME!). The cardboard box scrap also picks up Beate's Inspiration with the linear design (pictured below, right). I added the crumpled posies and buttons to embellish. Instead of journaling, I just added the date and a title emphasizing what I was doing (in my walker). I really liked how this turned out because of the imperfection that it shows...all done on purpose! I also really like the texture.

Ozzy

Most people who know me, know "my only baby, Ozzy." Today, he was groomed and wanted so badly to pose for a picture. He even sat on the 'fancy' living room chair! His groomer praised him for being a great dog and very affectionate. When she told me in front of other dog owners, I just smiled with joy, like a proud parent would...that's MY dog! Anyway, this is just a fun post. He's now allowed on the bed since he's nice and clean! Isn't he sooooo cute? Although I have had Ozzy since he was a baby (I mean puppy!), and it's been over 5 years, it feels like forever. I can't imagine my life without him now. Pets are amazing component of people's lives and don't cause as much stress and strain as children! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the kids, BUT Ozzy fills the void for me now juuuust right!

Creating Keepsakes Convention - Charlotte

I'm finally ready to give my review of 2008 Creating Keepsakes Convention (CKC) in Charlotte, NC. I decided to breeze through the vendors on a Friday afternoon, dragging a photographer...my hubby along with me! Don't pity him, he was glad to take pictures, and boy did he?! Most people there thought I was a celebrity and the paparazzi was following me. I got used to it, similar to my wedding day, and totally ignored he was there (most of the time). He captured some amazing moments for any 'paper artist.' You can view his perspective here. By the way, husbands are great to take along...because they can carry your bags!!!

My perspective of the convention was not overwhelmingly pleased; however, I only say that because earlier this summer I attended the Great American Scrapbook Convention (GASC) in Chantilly, VA. The vendors were about the same, give or take a few different exhibitors. The classes were almost the exact same. So, my suggestion would be to attend one or the other, but not necessarily both, unless you did not get a chance to take a class at one or the other. These conventions and trips can be costly, so this review is only to show you that both the CKC and the GASC is about the same, so you are not missing much if you can only manage to attend one for the year. Here are some pictures that I want to share that he did not on his blog:

Scrapbook Convention

Cherish

This is another frame I made. I used a metallic finish of an espresso acrylic. The left side is a rub-on with dew dots. I hot glued flowers at the bottom. I find that hot glue works the best on wood surfaces so that they do not fall off later. The antique flowers are brads from Hobby Lobby by Paper Studio. I adhered a purple lace and cream grosgrain ribbon to the bottom. Tim Holtz hinge clip is on the right side for a special note. I included the stamped cherish message for the time being. I stitched around it and placed it in a purple window frame that is emobossed using rectangle nestabilities. Sheer ribbon is tied around the hinge clip for added 'punch'. I stamped blessings in the center part until the person decides what picture to include.

This is the personalized card that I designed to go along with the frame and gift bag. I decided to stamp her name on it. I carried along the rub-on theme with the dew dots at the bottom. The same purple lace ribbon is used. The sentiment is stamped on a designer label by SU!

This is the matching gift bag. I used the same designer label punch and matted it on a purple one that I cut out. I placed white liquid pearls around the edges and personalized it with a monogrammed H. The same purple lace and cream ribbon are used. I stamped a design and added flowers at the bottom. I carried the stitching over here as well on the bag.

This set is given to someone who is accepting a new job and moving away. The gift giver is showing her appreciation to her and wishing her well with her fabulous big time career! Congratulations, Heather!

Watercolor Technique...Stampin' Up Demonstrator

I finally completed the watercolor technique successfully! OK...it's not the best, but for my first time, I liked the way it turned out. The hydrangea stamp is from A.C. Moore by Anna Griffin. I used my ink pads by pressing the ink on the opposite side, then used an aqua painter to watercolor. The image is matted on pink cardstock, then popped off of the kraft card base. Circle and scallop circle "nesties" were used to customized the birthday. The happy 70th is a rub-on by Martha Stewart. The clip is SU! hodgepodge hardware with celery ribbon tied around it. PTI "birthday" is stamped at the bottom. Liquid pearls are applied to the hydrangea and pearl dew dots to the right for a simple finish.

I am now a SU! Demonstrator! I plan to only be a hobby demo and probably go to next year's convention, but if you would like to order, please let me know and I'll be happy to do it for you!

Potpourri

Here is a baby shower gift bag similar to the girl baby shower gift bag I did earlier this week. After seeing this gift bag, she requested one for the baby boy chipboard purchased. So, I made one really quick for her. I used the same pattern paper used in the baby boy chipboard album. I added thickers for baby shower and used ribbon, button and binder clips as accents.

Gift bags are a simple paper art to finish off your entire project. This works perfectly if you have a scrapbook album or other alterable project to include with your handmade card!

I made this card a few weeks ago, but forgot to share. I used scrap paper to create it. The pattern paper, ribbon, and solid cardstock is all by Papertrey Ink. The small white flowers are by MM (can be purchased at your local Michaels). This is a simple card that has a touch of class. I stamped the friendship sentiment at the bottom. It is by SU! called curvy verses.

This card is a case of my own card. I had leftover scraps and decided to use them for a teenage birthday. The colors would not be my preference, but had the "rock" direction I was going for. I layered everything. The scalloped edge was created by 1/2" circles punched then applied to the back of the black cardstock. Start in the center, then work your way out to the edges so you get an even amount of scallops. Then, trim the ends off if there are any excess. This card is slightly different because of the colors, which are a little opposite. I also used thickers to create the happy sentiment, then stamped birthday at the bottom in black ink. Instead of a black button, I used a clear one with green twine tied to its center. And guess what...I didn't use ribbon on this card! I have discovered I have passion for ribbon and you can find it on almost all of my cards, so I am amazed when I do not use it. I only used twin on the button here, so I thought that didn't count!

Have a good weekend. I am going to a cards class with my former co-worker, Tessa and then to the all-night crop! I hope I get a lot done! Have a fantastic weekend.

It's a...Celebration

It's a...Celebration! That's a line from the Dave Chappelle Show; a mockery of Rick James (rip). That show was too funny and I hate it does not air anymore. Anyway, here are a few "Celebrate" cards I created this week. I figured I would group them together since they all had the same theme.

The card pictured left was a simple creation, using scraps (of course). The pattern paper is a scrap from my sister. She made a card for me on my birthday and gave me all of her leftovers! Isn't she sweet?! The pattern paper is matted on brown card stock. I divided the two sections by tying a brown grosgrain ribbon around the card base. Then, I stamped the sentiment and flowers in chocolate chip ink using SU! All About U set. I stamped the "U" on orange cardstock using Versamark, then heat embossed it with glittery chocolate embossing powder. I popped it off of the designer paper and VOILA, the card is done!

This is a card I designed for my co-worker. She's getting married in October and I decided to use a close replica of her wedding colors. I cannot take credit for the design of this card because I cased it from Silke and Jessie When I saw their cards, I just had to try the overlapping background design concept...loved it! Although I did not have the same word background stamp, I used the one I purchased from Hobby Lobby in Merrillville, IN. I changed quite a few things about the cased cards, such as the size of the card, the type of flower used as the focal point, the sentiment, and color choices. I added a hat pin with pearls and gems from SU! Pretties Kit. To get the effect on the lower portion of the card, I stamped SU! Sanded background stamp in a light brown (I used Desert Sand by CTMH). Then, I used my background word stamp and inked it with a brighter color as an overlay of the sanded pattern. I stamped the rose (stamp set from CTMH) and the sentiment (Papertrey Ink). I really liked this card!

And for the last "celebrate" card, I used a rub-on by SU! for the sentiment. The pattern paper is by Imaginisce. I matted it on orange and black cardstocks. Papertrey Ink's matching "summer sunrise" grosgrain ribbon is tied around the matted cardstocks. SU! hodgepodge hardware kit was used to finish the card. The name plate and the other two "thingys" were applied to the top corners. I really like paisley of this pattern paper, don't you? It's a cross between retro and trendy.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Thursday!

Be Inspired...is Back

Beate is back from summer break and so are her challenges. I decided to participate in the first one upon her return. She used this bedding as a challenge to inspire others to make paper art creations.

Here is the card I created. I was inspired by the colors and stripes. The bedding was so rigid with its stripes that I decided to replicate that style. I applied the various color cardstocks to the card base. I tied a black ribbon around the color cardstocks. I stamped squares and images in the squares, then punched them out using 1/2-inch shapers by CM. I popped them off of a white cardstock, then popped it off of the ribbon. I really like the simplicity of the card and of course the fact that I used scraps!

One Late Night

Last night was one late night. I know I saw 2:00 at least. Then, it takes me at least 30 minutes to wind down, so I watched some Olympic track and field!

I had to finish those princess invites last night and did that in a timely fashion. Then, I had to make four additional cards. Well, I actually completed them in record time - about an hour! I surprised myself because again I limited myself to scrap paper only (other than the card base). I did use many new stamps from CKC and from Dawn.

I really liked the way the card above turned out. I was inspired by the pattern paper, then selected a stamp. I decided to keep it simple and stamp the small nature foliage (CTMH) at the bottom of the square using the stamp off technique, but not re-inking every time I re-stamped. Then, I stamped the sentiment (Papertrey Ink - Out on a Limb). I matted it on chocolate cardstock and popped it off of the card base.

The card pictured left is very simple, but elegant. I used SU! French Flair background stamp and CTMH greeting stamp. I used chocolate satin ribbon from Paper Source.

It looks like tonight will be another busy night. I have to catch up on a lot of projects since I was out last week. I still do not have my pictures from CKC finished yet, but when I do, I will show!

Have a spectacular day! (No one else will probably tell you that!)

All about Baby Girls

I'm finally back from a long extravaganza. This trip combined business + pleasure, but was well worth it to break up the monotony of everyday life.

Last night, I designed this gift bag to go along with the BABY girl chipboard album below. I used some of the same pattern paper and ribbon to decorate the front. I added various ribbons. Shower is stamped in pink ink and attached with clips. Personally, I have loved a glue gun since my original craft days and of course I had one to pull out to make sure these clips were adhered strongly! When apply metal objects to alterable projects, I find that glue guns come in handy. Felt items are another hard-to-adhere item, so I use glue gun for that too. BABY are AC Thickers - LOVE THEM! I created a tag at the top by folding a piece of pink scrap and punching a hole, then eyelets with my crop-a-dile. I tied to the gift bag with pink ribbon.

Oh yeah...I used only scraps to create this gift bag! I'm still only using scraps!

This Baby Girl chipboard album was a special request after seeing the Baby Boy album featured on my web site. I finished it almost a month ago and am just now getting around to mailing it. I used flowers, ribbon, letters, and stamps to create this album.

From this view, you can see the journaling area on the "B" and the picture template on the "A." A charm is wrapped around the A, similar to a necklace.

On the back of the A, I applied a "cutie" rub-on and created a pocket. The insert can be a picture or more journaling. On the B, "sweet" letters are used along with flowers and buttons.

On the reverse if the "B" is another pocket with a sentiment stamped and a place to jot down baby facts. On the "Y" pictures may be inserted on the mat underneath a large paper clip.

I painted the entire chipboard pink. Here's the back of the "Y." Pictures can be added here or not, I left that up to the person who will be receiving it. I find that most of the time, these albums lay flat, so it is probably best to leave them plain on the back side.

Boldlifestyle Photography is currently editing my Creating Keepsakes Convention pictures, so I will post my review tomorrow! Have a great day!

{another} Niece Birthday

This is the other niece birthday card I did last week. This is an adult version! I used scraps again to create this card. I have small and large scraps. The pattern paper is a very large scrap and I still have more left. I decided to cut out some of the flowers and leaves of the paper and pop them off of the card. I used some ribbon tape by Technique Tuesday for division. The sentiments are all by Papertrey Ink. Niece is included in the additions of the Women of Life set. Happy birthday is included in the Father Knows Best set.

I hope everyone is having a great morning! Downtown Atlanta is beautiful including the new Atlantic Station! The next time you are in Atlanta, it is a must to check out! Just maybe, I'll be able to make a stop to one LSS! We'll see how that goes.

This will probably be my last post for the week, unless I decide to download some pictures to share, so have a great weekend if I don't and I'll be sure to capture all of the details at the CKC in Charlotte the end of this week and will report next week.

Niece Birthday

This is a quick post of a card I made last week. Scraps were used to create this design. I started with a brown cardstock base. Flowers are stamped with watermark ink, then stickles are added to the centers. Blue and orange cardstocks are adhered together. A matching ribbon with a "birthday" charm is wrapped around. Thickers are used to create "happy." Then, I stamped Niece and birthday on it as well.

Right now, I am on my way to Atlanta. I might post some creative pictures I capture along the way. Other than that, you will hear from me at the end of the week. I'll be attending the Creating Keepsakes Convention in Charlotte!

Sorry, no details for this card because I left them at home!

{30 Birthday Wishes}

If you had 30 birthday wishes, what would they be? Well, I better start making my list because 30 will be here for me sooner than I think! I made this card for our friend. I wanted something masculine and simple and here's how it turned out. Most of the time, I have a plan of action, but the card ends up creating itself, which is how I end up with so many scraps!

I covered 1" chipboard squares with different polka dot pattern papers. I punched the 1" pattern paper squares with a CM square puncher. I sanded the edges, then inked them and applied to a 1.5" brown square. The metal numbers are by MM and I found at Michaels. I stamped the sentiment below and inked around the edges of the card base.

:: Many Thanks ::

Last night when I received my feed for Kristina's color challenge I was not too pleased. The colors reminded me of Halloween and just were not my style. But, tonight I selected a stamp set, my colors (all scraps by the way), and started creating. I really liked how it turned out. Anyway, I'm glad to say that Kristina:

(1) allowed me to use more scraps, and
(2) forced me to step outside of my comfort zone of design!

In the end, this card could be one of my favorites. What do you think? Oh yeah, and many thanks to all of you who have stopped by my blog to view this card!

Slice of Cake

Want a slice of cake? I stamped this one to look like a yellow cake with chocolate layered icing. I heat embossed it to make it look more edible. The best secret I have for tying a bow is to wrap a piece of ribbon around the area first. Then, take a smaller piece to actually tie the knot or bow around the initial wrapped ribbon. It ensures a perfect ribbon knot or bow every time!

Today, I made 4 cards...all out of scraps and I still have not put a dent in the scrap pile!

Hidden Sentiment

I cannot get enough of Paperytrey Ink's Piece of Cake stamp set! I stamped the card a few days ago, which started my scrap-a-thon! The card base is a 5.5 x 5.5 pre-scored card from JoAnn Fabrics, so it is the only 'new' paper. I used square nestabilities for the scalloped square and the regular square. I also created my first embossing on a square! I used stickles on the center of the cake flowers. The ribbon is a secret...it really is a tag with the card's sentiment!

This is the card's sentiment tag. It is a scrap piece with the corners rounded.

Happy Day!

I am now on a scrap feast. I plan on only using scraps when at all possible to create any future cards. I have way too many and they are out of control. For this card, I selected the brown stripe pattern paper by SU! and coordinating taupe and brown cardstocks were found in my scrap pile. I selected the blue cardstock as a pop of color for the card base and the pop-up.

I stamped the tree limb and owl in brown and placed dew dots on the eyes to create a googly eye appeal. The sentiment is stamped above on blue cardstock and popped off. I used a crop-a-dile to set eyelets, then tied brown stitched ribbon to the sides.

So, I have proven to myself there are countless cards just sitting in my scrap pile!

For the inside, I created a gift card holder. As shown, a gift card, check, or cash fits perfectly snug in this pocket. To create the pocket, I cut a 4.25" wide piece and adhered it to the bottom (only around the edges). I punched half of a 1" circle at the top for the opening. I stamped "for you" on white cardstock and distressed it with QQ powder puff.

For the greeting, I distressed a 5.25 x 4" white cardstock with QQ powder puff. I adhered a taupe cardstock on top (scrap paper) and stamped another owl image on the bottom right corner. I created the greeting in Microsoft Word using Acoustic Bass font and printed it directly on the cardstock.

Blog Candy Winner

And the winner is...Comment #3, who is Tessa of Crafty Girl Designs. I happen to know Tessa, which is funny. I will send Tessa a package full of goodies this week!

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment and participated.

From this blog candy I discovered that most of my readers are not fellow paper artists who would actually use the supplies, but are admirers or buyers of my paper art! So, if I have another blog candy, I may do one of completed paper art, such as a box of finished note cards!

Have a great day. I did not do any paper art this weekend. I had other fun instead of staying inside all day/night in my studio with those hot lights! Now, I will be forced this week to finish those princess invitations before I go out of town again!

Princess Invitations

Here are two princess invitations I made for a mom to select for her princess' birthday party! Typically, I give my customers a few options. This time I only gave two, well because I worked so hard on one I was hoping she would select it...and she did! Can you guess which one? It's the one pictured right! I named it the "Laura Princess Pocket Invite." The card is a 5x7 pocket card. I trimmed 12x12 pink cardstock into 5x12, then scored at 7". I used clear embossing powder and heat embossed the polka dot background (SU!) and the you're invited sentiment (PTI). I used oval/scallop nestabilities to die cut the oval around the sentiment on pink and purple cardstocks. I placed a pink and purple ribbon around the bottom flap of the card (TT - I think). Two rhinestone jewels are place don each side of the sentiment that is popped off of the card base (KaiserCraft). For the letters, they are MM felt stickers (A.C. Moore). The tiara is clear embossed on purple cardstock with a pink rhinestone (TT).

The inside pocket has a white cardstock base with pink and purple cardstocks matted on top. I used French Script font in Microsoft Word with a pink/purple font to detail all of the party information. The top of the pocket insert is punched with a ribbon slit with various pink and purple ribbons.

The "Ella tri-fold Princess Invite" is also nice, but not as fun as the pocket. I used pink polka dot pattern paper for the strips on the tri-fold. On the green cardstock, I stamped "little princess" and a want from Technique Tuesday collection. The same tiara was used (TT). Ella are the same MM felt stickers. The inside include party details. But, my favorite feature of this invite is how it closes. I used Basic Grey's magnets on each side so it automatically closes. I think I played with the magnet closure part for about 10 minutes! HA!

Two very different styles, one glamorous and the other simple! I'll be making these invites over the weekend until next week. To make bulk paper art easier, I complete every component in steps. So, all trimming is done in one step, then all embossing and so forth! Doing one at a time would drive me nuts!
