Loonie Love :: Happy Birthday, Dee

Happy Friday everyone! Today, is Dee's birthday. Happy Birthday, Dee! Are you surprised? So, today's card is inspired by Dee's birthday and this card is made especially for her. It will take some while to get up to Canada, but it's coming (along with Regan's from last month - WHOOPS)!! Please join in on the fun and blog hop around (links are below) to those who are wishing Dee a happy, happy birthday today!

I felt like playing with photography again, so I used a Melissa Frances (Madison) patterned paper as my backdrop. My white counter is used for the 'stage.' I played with angles to show detail. What do you think? I rarely finish the inside of a card, so when I do, I want everyone to see how hard I worked on the inside too! I like to carry in the card design on the inside by using a watermark style in the background of the greeting. Here, I used a Stampin' Up! Bermuda Bay marker to ink my acrylic stamp (yes, it worked) to create the watermark look. Versamark can also work well if you do not have the same color ink.

One more thing...I tore my acrylic stamp (the one used) as I was trying to pull it off of the acetate backing. It was STUCK! So, I pulled and pulled and RIIIIIP. SHOOT! I thought the stamp was ruined. So I inked it up and got a fluent stamped image and kept right on trucking! Does anyone have any stamps out there that stick like this? It's quite annoying because they were all like this. The next time, I will be a little less aggressive in pulling these off, but it is so difficult.

One last thing...for real! Do you see the bottom button and how the twine is knotted? Well, that was by accident, but I love the effect. Here is how you can do it (on purpose, of course). Feed thicker twine/floss through a small button hole. It will cause the twine/floss to unravel and create the jumbled effect! Voila - a new technique (learned by accident)!

Anyway, I'm babbling. Enjoy your weekend!!

Love this card.... - - the colors are fantastic.
I have had that problem with Verve stamps....really tough to pull off...but, I have not broken one yet.
Gonna have to try your button invention (by accident - LOL) - - always like new twists on the same ol' tying of buttons.

Pretty card (as usual). I also wanted to say that I have that set, and it was close to impossible to get them all off the backing. I also have some Inkadinkado stamps that I took off the backing and moved to CD cases. I recently tried to use one of those, and it was pretty darn stuck as well. I also have a set of Martha Stewart clear pattern stamps, and I ripped one of those getting it off. It was polka-dots, so I was still able to use it, but it ripped, right down the middle! So I feel your pain!

Oh my goodness this is so pretty! You work well with your brown girl! ;-) You even added little dots to the ornaments...goodness!

Well, I have run into the same problem with my Amy Butler Lotus stamps. I literrally had to cock my elbow up and use some major strength to get them off of the sheet!...and I did tear (though only slightly) one of mine as well. It's extremely frustrating. You would think they would take care of that before putting these stamps out on the market. Other than that tho, the stamps work perfectly. Lol. I find the problem is less severe the more you use the stamps also.

Ok, now that you've made me ramble, I'm going to browse the SU! catalog... doh!

(Lol! @ us both having bday challenge posts today!)

I *really* like this card! I love the colors together. And Bermuda Bay...wow, it looks great on this card! Oh, I wanted to let you know that cleaning my acrylic stamps (and even rubber stamps) with the baby wipes has helped a LOT! Thanks!

I really love your work and enjoy your blog and photography that you have shared in the past. I have a quick question about your buttons! I do love how the bottom one turned out and have never thought to leave it like that when it has happened to me! On your top button, I noticed that you have a simple slip knot. Do you dab a bit of glue or other trick to keep it from coming open? Mine tend to do that with handling and I was wondering how you prevent it?
Thanks for sharing your talent!

Re: Twine question from Patty

I recently picked up this twin from Wal-Mart near the craft section, but really in the jewelry area. It is thicker and heavier than the 'hairy' twine that PTI carries. That twine is still good for smaller buttons, but I like this twine for wrapping and tying bows and stuff.

The tied the knot once using this twine. When I use lighter twine, I double the knot to secure it. I do not use any glue or adhesive to secure the knot. This button is adhered to the cardstock with a glue dot. Sometimes, I adhere buttons with Alene's tacky glue, but it depends on the bulky-ness of the project and other stuff.

I hope that answers you question and you find the answer here. I could not find an e-mail address for you.

I love this card. It is bright and fun. I love the craft and the twine.

What stamp set is that? I can't believed it ripped. I will think twice about being so agressive when I pull them of the backing or the block.

Ashley this is fabulous! I'm sure Dee loved it - I LOVE that "accidental" knot - isn't that what they call serendipity?? Way to rock Dee's BD.

Love the colors!!! The twine, how you did it, is fabby!! I rarely do the inside... actually hardly ever. I porb should cause then it'll give less space to write :)

ok this is by far my favorite out of all your creations. its so simple and chic. happy belated dee!!!

so about the nasty sticky stamps. i used to buy autumn leaves brand clear stamps and i ripped the flourishes. it was stuck on the acetate. annoying!! K&Co stamps. basic grey or anything made in china....(nothing against china) are tough to remove from the acetate. acrylic stamps made in the US...the quality is better. If you just want to fix your ripped stamps jsut use crazy glue. works for me. just dont get the glue on the stamp side of the clear stamp.
