Card Creations 7 Blog Tour

Happy Friday Everyone! This is not a typical Fast Friday Card post, but I'm sure you're still going to like it! The anniversary card I gave McArthur last year is pictured above. It is featured in Paper Crafts Card Creations 7 magazine (which was released Tuesday, June 23rd).

My Inspiration
I'm not sure about everyone else, but wedding keepsakes are important to me; however, they are all stashed away in a drawer. I was determined to use some of my own wedding keepsakes for an anniversary card. To make this card, I started with an A7 (or 5" x 7") card. I found a sentimental picture, then adhered it to the card front. Next, I grabbed some leftover satin ribbon that I used at the reception.

A Bit About the Ribbon
One of our wedding favors was a DVD copy of the Perfect Proposal (a TLC show that aired a few years ago featuring McArthur proposing to me). To package the DVD, we placed them in a bag and secured the bag with satin ribbon and a tag with the guests name and their table name. We purchased lots of ribbon for fear that we would run out, so I ended up with a great amount of ribbon leftover. I tied the ribbon around the card front (cutting a slit on the fold of the card) and used an antique metal ribbon charm to dress the card up a bit. To add some texture, I stitched around the card using a sewing machine. And the final touch was to add a sentiment. Last, I inked the edges of the sentiment and the card to add a vintage touch.

Feel free to read more about our story here.

beautiful card. What a great idea to use wedding things on your cards. I would have never thought to do that.

Unknown said...

Congrats - and what an amazing card! That photo is stunning. As far as creative ways to use keepsakes...for my SIL, I ran around picking things up after her on the wedding day, to incorporate into a scrapbook...pearls that came off of her dress, the cork out of the first champange bottle, etc. I strung a few of the pearls onto some ribbon, and then drilled a tiny hole down the center of the cork...threaded that onto the ribbon...then a few more pearls...this became the 'bookmark' for the scrapbook...

What a beautiful card. I may just dig out all my proofs from my wedding (won't tell you how many years ago!) and start using them on cards for my husband and family. Thanks for the idea!! You have beautiful cards and I'll be returning to your blog a lot!

Laurel Beard said...

Beautiful! My parents are very important to me. My mom is my absolute best friend. I found a picture pose that they had taken at their wedding (looking into each others eyes while holding hands with the unity candle in the background)and did the same pose for our wedding and we have the pictures side by side in a frame. It is a great memory for me and a tribute to just how much I love my parents at the same time!

This is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. We were married at Christmas, so I was able to cut out portion of the cards we received as ornaments on our first tree. I also used the ribbon that had our names and date of our wedding in our wedding album. We had a lot left over as well, so I used it as a theme throughout the album. Wendy Gorton

what a gorgeous, gorgeous card, Ashley!

For our 20th, I found a heart shaped childrens' board book and ripped it down to the boards and then began to create a 'memory' walk through 20 years of wedded bliss. Since it was a children's book, the amount of pages was manageable and I even finished it on time.

Other people saw it and asked now is your husband even going to appreciate it. His response, it makes me feel so loved!

WOW! Amazing photo and LOVE the vintage metal ribbon slide! I have alot of old vintage items that I have saved over the years. Due to the value of some of the items I take photo copies of them to use on my projects.

Kelly in Canada said...

My wedding was 15 years ago and I wasn't too much into crafting back then so I didn't save a lot of keepsakes. I did, however, stamp my own place cards with a simple heart stamp (almost everything i collect has something to do with hearts). I still use that heart stamp every year for my husband's Valentine's Day and anniversary cards.
